SINCE 1940

The grape harvest is undoubtedly the decisive moment for the wine grower

the grape harvest

The grape harvest starts once the vines have reached their optimal state of ripeness. This is undoubtedly the decisive moment for the wine grower. Our grapes are harvested by hand, selecting the best grapes, which are then transported to our winery where the winemaking process, honed by four generations of winemakers, begins.

pruning

The vines are pruned every winter, just after their leaves fall. This process consists of reducing the vegetative part of the vines in order to limit their natural growth and thus improve yields and grape quality, decreasing the number and length of the vine shoots so that the vines produce fewer but thicker and better quality clusters. This also extends the life of the vines and safeguards the harvest from one year to the next.

farming

Farming is the most

traditional and natural

way to oxygenate the soil

Farming is the most traditional and natural way to oxygenate the soil and keeping the vineyard clean. Each year, Bodegas Fernández Gasco cultivates the vineyards 3 or 4 times, depending on the weather conditions and rainfall, in order to oxygenate the vine roots, thus allowing rain to filter more easily, and also eliminate weeds naturally without having to use residual herbicides or insecticides. In our oldest vineyards we use very narrow special tractors that can pass through the soil around the vines without damaging the vineyards.
